Course Introduction:

As demand for clean, safe, and reliable drinking water continues to grow, water treatment professionals face increasing challenges in ensuring regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and high-quality water delivery. Secondary treatment processes, particularly those involved in coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, and filtration, play a pivotal role in transforming raw water into potable water that meets international and national quality standards.

This 10-day intensive course provides in-depth technical knowledge and hands-on training in advanced secondary treatment techniques used in modern drinking water treatment facilities. Participants will explore conventional and advanced technologies, process optimization strategies, chemical dosing, filtration dynamics, and integration of secondary treatment with both upstream and downstream processes. Real-world case studies, laboratory simulations, and group projects will ensure participants gain practical, actionable knowledge to enhance the performance of water treatment systems in their respective institutions.

Course Objectives:

By the end of the training, participants will be able to:
• Understand the role and principles of secondary treatment in the broader drinking water treatment process.
• Explain the scientific basis and operational factors behind coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, and filtration.
• Apply chemical dosing and process optimization techniques to enhance water quality and treatment efficiency.
• Monitor and interpret key water quality parameters relevant to secondary treatment units.
• Operate and troubleshoot filtration systems, including multimedia, rapid sand, and advanced membrane filters.
• Assess disinfection strategies for microbial control following secondary treatment.
• Implement quality assurance protocols to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
• Develop and present a practical treatment system design that incorporates secondary treatment best practices.
• Use tools and systems for real-time process monitoring, including SCADA and other automation platforms.
• Respond effectively to operational challenges such as seasonal raw water variations, chemical imbalances, or mechanical failures.

Who Should Attend:

• Water Treatment Plant Operators and Technicians
• Engineers working in water utilities, rural water supply projects, or urban infrastructure
• Water Quality Analysts and Laboratory Technicians
• Environmental Health and Public Health Officers
• Supervisors and Managers in water supply and distribution systems
• Regulators and Compliance Officers in environmental or water agencies
• Consultants and Contractors in the water sector
• Technical and Maintenance Staff involved in plant operations and optimization
• Training Coordinators and instructors from water training institution

IN HOUSE AND ONLINE TRAINING

While both In-House and Online training can present with cost-effectiveness and time-efficacy, there are some very specific differences between in-house courses and those based online.

The demand for additional courses by individuals or groups of people is increasing. Still, it depends entirely on the preferences of a person what type of training he or she wants to receive. Online courses and in-house training carry some similarities but they are considered to exhibit some very pivotal differences too. Despite that, both types of learning can be really beneficial for attendees.
